We finally found Howard a replacement! Her name is Mandi. She's pretty inexperienced, but she's smart as a whip and has that spark we've been looking for. She starts on Tuesday, which means I'm only a week away (plus or minus a day) from starting my new job. Of course, the bad news is that I'm under even more pressure to get everything done. Also, Jerrod wants to paint this weekend, so it's no rest for the wicked. *yawn*
In case you were wondering where I've been for the last week, things are really cranking here and I also took a (work) trip to DC. It was very interesting, although I didn't get to do the site seeing I wanted to and I still haven't unpacked. In two weeks, it's off to Nashville for another conference. Basically all my free time is booked with the apartment or more work.
I'm not complaining, I swear. I'm still excited and thrilled and know that in a couple of weeks this crunch will lessen up and I'll get to start enjoying all the changes. I'm just a little tired and stressed and can't wait for those weeks to get here.

Laura ***** joins SLBU Communications
We are pleased to announce Laura ***** is joining the SLBU Communications team as Assistant Communications Marketing Manager. Laura will be based in New York until mid-August, when she will move to the London office for a year to represent the communications team and work alongside the UK SLBU team.
Laura will be responsible for effectively communicating site license products, services and policies to the institutional market. She will continue to be in charge of our Darwin intranet. She brings to the position over four years STM publishing experience including three years working at NPG as assistant to Howard ******, CTO, Executive VP. Laura has been involved in PR and internal communications projects, including the project management of Darwin, and will complete her Certificate in Communications at NYU before leaving for the UK. Laura will report to Suzanne **** in New York.
Laura is currently transitioning between roles and will move to her new position in the 6th floor marketing department in early June.

Saturday, August 7: Laura's birthday/going-away party at Club 151
August 13: Last day in NY office
August 14-August 20: Laura goes to San Diego for Penny & Jack's wedding (Yay! All cheer Penny & Jack) and her birthday (Aug 19 if you didn't know).
August 21: Last day in NY!!!
August 22: Fly to UK
August 24: First day in London office
Sorry I hadn't come back for the past few days, but I was waiting for the dates to settle in. Anyhoo, Tuesday, I told a whole bunch of UK folk I was coming (hi guys) and had a really lovely/drunken dinner with Mel where we debated the merits of British guys. Also, Jerrod and I heard back from Georgene, although due to email snafus, we didn't realize it. Club 151 will be revamped again, with Jerrod taking over the big bedroom and me moving into the small one. I'll keep paying some rent and kitty support, and Jerrod will make up the rest. All my stuff basically stays, including the huge TV (Thanks again, Daddoo! I'm sure Jerrod thanks you, too.) My room will basically become a guest room, so all of you who have put off trips to NY to see Jerrod or whatever, now there's ANOTHER place to stay.
Wednesday, I met with future and present bosses to talk workflows and dates, resulting in what you see above. I also met with the head of human resources who delivered mostly good news (I get UK employee vacation days - yay!) with some other more practical matters (UK employee insurance - boo!). Lee and I discussed ever pressing basketball dates, and Jerrod and I discussed moving and vacation timings. The result was two VERY complicated calendars and two very tired people who decided a little 24 would relieve the tension (yeah, didn't really work).
So now it's Thursday, and I'm sorry it took so long for an update, but save those dates and I'll try and publish more often. Thanks for all the congratulations, here, online and in person. I really appreciate them. More soon!
So here's the news
For those of you who haven't heard it yet, I was offered a new job last Friday (May 7 if you're keeping count). The paperwork hasn't gone through, but I would be an assistant marketing manager, which is pretty good step up from an administrative assistant. Anyways, the whole point of this story is to get to the good part: ...London. My boss will be here in the States for another 16 months or so. That leaves the London people short. So, they're sending me to London for a year, beginning sometime end of August/beginning of September. Yay me!
Now, it occurs to me that London is five hours ahead of NYC and
eight hours ahead of Cali. That, frankly, sucks. Talking on the phone to CA isn't going to happen as often. On top of that, you guys all know I'm not exactly the best e-mailer. So, I figure, why not start a blog? I can update you on preparations before I leave and then journal about what's happening in London while I'm there. Is it a cop out? Well, maybe. But if it helps, I did spend hours trying to find the best software program.
Anyways, this is my blog. Welcome. Read, write, whatever. Oh yeah, and while you're here, I'll take this brief interlude to solicit up-to-date contact details. I'm going to be leaving all sorts of stuff behind and I don't want it to include you!
